Sonar V-Studio 700
Sonar V-Studio 700
Channel Branch

Channel Branch is a mixing idea I suggested when using a control surface, the new V-Studio 700 made by Roland and Cakewalk.
I was invited sometime last year to see a Proto-type of the new Sonar V-Studio music software and control surface and was asked for a few opinions on it, I have helped develop a few control surfaces before and I have firm idea’s on how they should and shouldn’t be done. From the start I was blown away by their attitude to get opinions from users and not just leave it to a design team as so often people do with these things.
I got an email from one of their engineers saying they liked a few idea’s I mentioned one being the realtime control of one channels Volume and Aux on faders at the same time and they were working hard to make them happen, a few months later I was very impressed with the fact not only did it work as well as I had hoped it would but they thanked me for it and named it after me! Most of my idea’s before for DAW’s (digital Audio Workstations) have just been used without any credit at all..

Above is a video link to the very charming Brandon Ryan showing off “Channel Branch” on the beautifully made V-Studio desk, pity it only runs Sonar as I mostly use Logic and Pro Tools but I have to say it does everything and more than either of them! Well done Cakewalk & Roland.
The Sonar V-Studio 700, control surface, digital I/O and built in synth supported by Cakewalk’s Sonar music software.
Now using some clever mixing shortcuts called “Channel Branch” enabling realtime control of a channels volume and aux on faders at the same time.
